Dreams

A poem by Ali, a member of the Major course.

Till dawn we drown in splendid sleep
Surrounded by sheets that form a cozy cocoon.
Our bodies are dead, but our thoughts are left to steep
As we lie beneath our guardian moon.
In dreams, we run, we chase, we love,
We leap, we sing, we dance, we win,
We soar across the skies above;
We are part of the wonderful world we imagine.
Dreams are lovely, but in the end they all die.
The spell is broken, and our stories slip away.
We awaken to realize it was all just a lie.
Saddened, we rise to begin the new day.
We are burdened with reality from our very first breath,
But we can escape in dreams until our death.
